The platform has introduced a dedicated news watch page that will provide topic-based news coverage from authoritative sources. This new experience will bring together long-form video, live streams, podcasts and Shorts on one screen so viewers can deep dive into the latest news from various perspectives. YouTube has also rolled out an immersive news shelf that will display related reports on a particular subject when you tap on the page.
Latest News and Resources on YouTube: Stay Ahead of the Trends
When we looked at the top 100 YouTube news channels, most of their videos revolved around politics or current events. About half of the analyzed videos from these channels were about President Trump or the 2020 Democratic candidates, while a third focused on international affairs or criticisms of corporations like big tech. Other popular topics included gun control, abortion or immigration. A small percentage of videos addressed controversial issues such as conspiracy theories like QAnon, or talked about local and state government.
More than a quarter of Americans say they get their news on YouTube, and most consider the site to be a reliable source. While the site is not designed to serve as a replacement for traditional news outlets, it has grown into an important way for people to keep up with world events. For people who do not have cable or satellite TV, YouTube offers a wide array of global and regional news sources that can be watched for free.
